Maizal is a delicious Latin American street food spot in the L’Enfant Plaza food court, which is slightly off the beaten path, but not far from the District Wharf. They serve a variety of Latin American street food ranging from empanadas and arepas, to tacos or make your own bowls with a range of proteins, vegetables, condiments and sauces from which to choose. They have several sides such as elote (Mexican street corn), and yuca fries and desserts including churros. There’s plenty of seating if you choose to dine-in. I was initially looking to order a shrimp taco, but they were out of shrimp, which was a little disappointing. I decided to go with a pulled chicken bowl with veggies, cilantro rice, guacamole, sour cream, a delicious garlic aioli and chimichurri sauce. If you’re in the mood for some quick and flavorful Latin American food and you find yourself @ L’Enfant Plaza, Maizal is a great option to fulfill your craving.

If you ever order online prepare for the portion sizes to be different and some of your toppings not to be in the bowl. Do not put any special notes because they will not be read. The food is usually good and I prefer to order online but I have to admit I like it better going there in person to order. That way I know the order will be correct!!

The most impressive thing is that you could taste the love in the food. Love from the hands who made it, and the ones that served it. The ingredients were fresh, cooked perfectly, and put together artistically in uniquely crafted recommended combinations to create a masterpiece every time wether custom or recommended combinations! I'm a world full of burrito lines this is something else completely. This was satisfying. Five Star Restaurant quality food in a food court, and at affordable prices. Take the extra steps and experience this place! ...and thank you to the four beautiful ladies who were running the shop today and completed the service with a brief but caring one line conversation, a smile and the attention to make this such a great experience for our entire family.

Tucked all the way back in the corner of L'Enfant Plaza Mall is this lovely Arepa kiosk. Being a fan of both areas and empanadas, I ordered more than necessary but was not disappointed. The La Inka Arepa was a little smaller than I had expected, which was fine, having ordered 2 empanadas. The breading was steamed versus what I was used to being toasted. Nonetheless, it was good as are the brisket & spicy chicken curry empanadas. Great on the pocket and you'll leave full. Not a lot of tables at the end of the food hall, mostly counter seating.

Very large portions. Poor atmosphere is not their fault, simply a consequence of being in a Food Court (L'Enfant Promenade).
